The Built Environment! |

When you think about exploring, you probably
imagine setting out to discover an environment that is unknown to you.
Perhaps you dream of hacking though the jungle seeking ancient Mayan
ruins or being the first to explore the depths of outer space. It probably
never occurs to you that there is unknown space to explore in your immediate
environment -- this is the space created when men and women tame the
natural environment to make it more livable. Architects call this the
built environment. The built environment consists of all the changes
people make to nature including building houses, schools and shops,
walkways, street signs, parks, parking lots, football fields and even
cultivated farm land. |
