A GUIDE FOR UNDERSTANDING ARCHITECTURE (Cont.)

Technical Elements:
The skill of the artist is important to the effect of a work of art. We learn to recognize technique and craftsmanship as we study art. We also learn to recognize the qualities of different art media and can understand the process used by artists as they choose materials and techniques to execute the work. In architecture, we examine the skill of the architectural designer, including the architect's artistic sense, choice of construction materials and overall ability to create exciting, livable space. We place the building in history; examine how architecture reflects the culture of the period and study the advances in technology of the time.
